Short answer: standard Bluetooth does not work reliably once your headphones are underwater. Water absorbs the 2.4 GHz radio signal used by Bluetooth, so a phone on the pool deck usually disconnects from submerged earbuds or headphones.
That does not mean you have to swim without music. You simply need an audio method designed for water: built-in memory or a dedicated transmitter-and-receiver system.
Why Bluetooth disconnects underwater
Bluetooth works well through air over short distances. Water is much denser and weakens the signal extremely quickly. Even if your phone and headphones are close together, putting the headset below the surface can interrupt the connection.
This limitation applies to Bluetooth in general; it is not caused by one particular phone or headphone brand. Bluetooth remains useful for poolside listening, running and daily use on land, but it should not be your primary underwater mode.
Two reliable ways to listen while swimming
1. Use swimming headphones with built-in memory
Music files are stored directly in the headphones, so no wireless connection is required during your swim. This is the simplest option when you are happy to download music, podcasts or audiobooks before training.

2. Stream phone audio through the Tayogo T6
If you want live Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, YouTube or podcast audio, use a Tayogo T6 Swim Music Combo. Your phone connects to the dry T6 by Bluetooth. The T6 then sends the audio by FM to a compatible swimming receiver.
The current T6 Swim Combo choices are T6 + W18, T6 + W23, T6 + W24 and T6 + W25. The W18 and W24 supplied in these combo packages do not include built-in memory; they receive streamed audio from T6. The separately sold standalone W18 and W24 models have 32GB memory.
Can I keep my phone beside the pool?
Yes. Keep both the phone and T6 dry and above the waterline. Fully extend the T6 antenna and place the transmitter where walls, metal objects and other equipment do not block the signal. The T6 has 16 selectable channels, so you can change channels if you hear interference.

- Choose built-in 32GB memory for simple, independent playback.
